Reading this blog for the last couple weeks you'd think all I do is eat and watch TV. Sadly this is not true. In amongst my frantic attempts to have everything ready for for summer when the kids get out of school (only 10 days left), I have been knitting.
First there's this sock..
This sock is a new pattern I'm working on based off an idea I had at camp. I really wanted to take a little bit of knowledge from each class we had and put them all together in one sock. I'm still in love with the idea, but the execution is killing me. I've been futzing around, swatching, and recently attempting the actual sock, but no joy yet. The latest incarnation (pictured above) has a dumb ass error in the increases and needs to be ripped. I actually wrote the pattern correctly and was feeling so full of myself and my cleverness that I didn't follow it. Knitting karma is such a bitch.
Now that I'm ripping a big portion of the sock I'm thinking about just starting over in a semi-solid. I like the stripping, but I think it distracts from the pattern. There is a lot going on and I want to see the all detail I worked so hard to put in. Here's my problem though, I really want to call the sock Flight of Ravens because camp crows feet, the pattern vaguely looks like wings, and the whole traveling stitches thing. So now I'm thinking black (from the Raven series) but it won't photograph well, which is how I ended up with the Stormy Weather.
Right now I'm leaning towards the Motley Hew (in the cake) so I can see while I'm knitting, it photographs well, and grey seems somewhat Raven like. The other choices are Jaspar (red), Mossay (green) and Tlingit (black). I think Tlingit fits the theme the best. I love the other two colors the most and think they will look good in the pattern, but they don't have anything to do with Ravens. Any opinions?
Between puzzling the pattern out, picking the color, and knitting like a bozo I'm totally pulling my hair out and pretty down on the project. Which is how I ended up starting this
My next pattern attempt. I know you are probably scratching your heads, but trust me. I think it's going to be super cool (more in a few days I hope).
And also this
Swatch and yarn for Zipped Vest by Veronik Avery. Since I'm now addicted to vests and can't wait to have another one.
Then yesterday I was feeling so over whelmed and crabby I hid in my office, put a Stephanie Plum audiobook on, and started this
Heartland Lace Shawl by Evelyn Clark in Malabrigo laceweight violetas.
If Evelyn Clark, Janet Evanovich, and Malabrigo can't make me feel better there's no hope.
Tlingit!!

My goodness you have been one busy lady:) I'm liking the hearland shawl and the vest of course. I'm also curious as to what that new design is going to be. I guess I will have to wait and see:)

I vote for Tlingit. Sam, you are so talented! I can't wait to see one of your patterns as a sock club entry. Loving the color of the shawl!

I'm waiting to see what that orangie-greenish-purple stripe thing is going to be! And ya gotta love the violetas! I so love your projects. Could you mail me some good knitting karma? My needles just don't move fast enough!
