Don't forget the Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD! (http://www.cornpalace.com/)

Seriously!

Sounds like a fun trip! There are a bunch of great yarn shops in Denver. My recommendations are Colorful Yarns in Centennial (south Denver) and Shuttles, Spindles and Skeins in Boulder. For a great family friendly restaurant while you're in Denver, head to Steuben's in downtown Denver. They have the best grilled cheese sandwiches and French fries. Enjoy!

Hi- I read your blog regularly, but I don't think I've commented before...Here's some fibery-fixes for you:

It looks like you're taking I-80 across southern Iowa. In the Iowa City area there are 3 yarn stores...Crazy Girl in Coralville (fun and trendy) , The Knitting Shoppe in Iowa City (more old-school but still very nice), and my favorites, Fae Ridge Farms and Home Ec Workshop.

FRF is an organic farm and the woman who runs it opens her shop of Saturdays from 11-5, or by appointment. She has lots of spinning stuff, roving, socially responsible and local yarns, and her own handspun. Here's the website:

Home Ec Workshop is also amazing. If you only get one stop in the area, I would recommend this one. Its in downtown Iowa City, where there are lots of fun shops, too. Home Ec has a nice selection of fabrics and yarns, as well as other locally made crafts.

In the Iowa City/ Coralville area there is tons of great food, too. Oasis is across the street from HEW and has AMAZING falafel. Hamburg Inn is right there too, and is a diner that is kind of famous for presidential candidates visiting. Feel free to email me if you want any other info on the area!

I hope you get a chance to stop at some fun yarn places! Have a fun trip.

If you have time for a stop in Madison, WI, visit the state capitol and Lakeside Fibers. When I was a kid, I loved the Henry Ford Museum and Deerfield Village near Detroit.

Have a great trip!

If you stop in Madison you have to eat at Mickie's Dairy Bar: http://www.yelp.com/biz/mickies-dairy-bar-madison

It's a classic diner (a *real* one, not one of these Johnny Rockets-style redesigned things) with mind-blowingly good shakes. I've been ordering grilled cheese & a malt there since I was 6 years old. They also have massive, delicious pancakes (just one is a meal). FYI cash only.

It looks like such and exciting trip. Sorry, can't make any recommendations since I haven't spent much time in any of the places you're visiting, but I love reading about all the recommendations from your other readers. I look forward to you blogging during your trip if you're able.

We just got home from a 22 day, 5,000 mile RV trip with 4 of our 5 kids. We had a blast. Of course there was the usual bickering but it's a great experience! We started in Minnesota and went to Washington DC and down the coast. Not one yarn shop stop though!

Have a great time. I'll be looking forward to updates!

My dream vacation! Can;t wait to hear all the tales and see the sights! Is there an empty closet on board for you to stash fiber and notions?!
